Father Quinn thanked everyone for coming to the Parish Council meeting.  He led the Parish Council in Vespers and then outlined the agenda for the meeting which included reports by committee chairpersons, a Building Project update, and new business.

Father Quinn introduced John Sullivan, the architect for the parish center, who was retained on the recommendation of the Archdiocese of New York’s Department of Buildings. John will explain the scope of the project including the design, cost and construction schedule at a cocktail party hosted by St. Patrick’s Fundraising Committee on Sunday, September 30th.  All parishioners will be invited to the party.

Ann O’Sullivan reported that 530 children are registered for the fall semester of the Religious Education program.  When registration is complete, Ann expects a total enrollment of 560 students. Enrollment in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program has increased to 18 students.  Frank Golden thanked Michael Clohosey on behalf of the parish for the excellent work he did in installing two classrooms in Wallace Hall.  The classrooms were ready on time for the start of the Religious Education program.  Ann expressed her thanks to all those in the parish who have volunteered to teach the Religious Education students.

Father Quinn informed the Parish Council that Mary Harnett is no longer on the staff of the Religious Education program.  This year two new teachers have joined St. Patrick’s.  Bernadette Devaney will be responsible for the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students enrolled in the Confirmation program.  Mary Briganti will be in charge of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, and the first and second grade students preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.  Mary will also head the parenting program.

Pat Cummings reported that the Respect Life Society recites the Rosary before the 10:30 A.M. Mass on the first Sunday of each month and every Sunday in October and May.  On October 7th the Society will sponsor the Blessing of Expectant Parents.  The following Sunday, October 14th, Respect Life will participate in The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.  All are welcome to the Respect Life breakfast at the Knights of Columbus on October 27th.  There will be lectures on the topic of life on October 21st and October 28th.  On November 15th the churches and synagogues in Armonk will hold an Ecumenical Hunger Banquet.

The Parish Council joined Joanne McMahon in congratulating the 2001/2002 officers of the Teen Life group: President Christy Fasano, Vice President Jessica DiPietro, Treasurer Chris Fasano, Secretary Samantha Kesten, Program Chairman Justin Tripodi.  Upcoming activities include the Birthright Walk on October 13th, the CYO Halloween Dance, the World Hunger Lock-in in Pelham and the C.Y.O. convention November 30th - December 2nd.  Teen Life added 8 new members to its ranks this year.

Tom Lindgren told the Parish Council that he has met 3 times with John Sullivan to review the plans for the parish center.  He displayed preliminary plans that depicted a rounded area on the parish center that mirrors the contours of the Church.  Tom informed the Parish Council that the Fundraising Committee for St. Patrick’s Building Fund will send a letter to the approximately 750 families of St. Patrick’s updating them on the parish center.  In that letter the committee notes that the Fundraising Campaign will commence with the September 30th cocktail party under the “Big Tent” on parish grounds.  Two days after that letter is mailed, invitations to the cocktail party will be sent to everyone in the parish.  Frank Golden thanked Mary Ann Shaheen and Mary B. Ryan for their fine work in preparing the master list of names of parishioners.

C.Y.O. basketball has started registration early this year due to increased demand.  Teams have been formed for 3rd through 8th grade boys.  Girls are represented in grades 3 through 5.  Scheduling is complicated owing to space limitations.  Father Quinn would like to continue to pursue the opportunity for practice at Byram Hills.

The cross planned for installation on St. Patrick’s property will be 13 feet high with a white corpus.  It will be installed in the front of the property offset by trees.

Frank Golden suggested that St. Patrick’s print a booklet on the history of the parish.  All agreed with his suggestion.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday, October 11th at 7:30 P.M.

Return to Parish Council.                  Return to home.
