PARISH COUNCIL OF ST. PATRICK'S IN ARMONK
MINUTES OF MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 10th, 2001
Present at the September 10th, 2001 meeting were Arcangelo
Bollella, Michael Clohosey, Pat Cummings, Thomas D’Agostino, John Erikson,
Frank Golden, Judi Hefferon, Maureen Lindgren, Tom Lindgren, Joanne McMahon,
Dorothy E. Mitchell, Jim Murphy, Ann O’Sullivan, Father John Quinn, Mary Ryan,
Ann Silvestri, Ed Strianese, John Sullivan, Barrie Watson, and Lynn Watson.
Father Quinn thanked everyone for coming to the Parish Council meeting.
He led the Parish Council in Vespers and then outlined the agenda for the
meeting which included reports by committee chairpersons, a Building Project
update, and new business.
Father Quinn introduced John Sullivan, the architect for the parish
center, who was retained on the recommendation of the Archdiocese of New
York’s Department of Buildings. John will explain the scope of the project
including the design, cost and construction schedule at a cocktail party hosted
by St. Patrick’s Fundraising Committee on Sunday, September 30th.
All parishioners will be invited to the party.
Ann O’Sullivan reported that 530 children are registered for the fall
semester of the Religious Education program.
When registration is complete, Ann expects a total enrollment of 560
students. Enrollment in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program has
increased to 18 students. Frank
Golden thanked Michael Clohosey on behalf of the parish for the excellent work
he did in installing two classrooms in Wallace Hall.
The classrooms were ready on time for the start of the Religious
Education program. Ann expressed
her thanks to all those in the parish who have volunteered to teach the
Religious Education students.
Father Quinn informed the Parish Council that Mary Harnett is no longer
on the staff of the Religious Education program.
This year two new teachers have joined St. Patrick’s.
Bernadette Devaney will be responsible for the sixth, seventh and eighth
grade students enrolled in the Confirmation program.
Mary Briganti will be in charge of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
program, and the first and second grade students preparing for the sacraments of
Reconciliation and First Communion. Mary
will also head the parenting program.
Pat Cummings reported that the Respect Life Society recites the Rosary
before the 10:30 A.M. Mass on the first Sunday of each month and every Sunday in
October and May. On October 7th
the Society will sponsor the Blessing of Expectant Parents.
The following Sunday, October 14th, Respect Life will participate in The
American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.
All are welcome to the Respect Life breakfast at the Knights of Columbus
on October 27th. There
will be lectures on the topic of life on October 21st and October 28th.
On November 15th the churches and synagogues in Armonk will
hold an Ecumenical Hunger Banquet.
The Parish Council joined Joanne McMahon in congratulating the 2001/2002
officers of the Teen Life group: President Christy Fasano, Vice President
Jessica DiPietro, Treasurer Chris Fasano, Secretary Samantha Kesten, Program
Chairman Justin Tripodi. Upcoming
activities include the Birthright Walk on October 13th, the CYO
Halloween Dance, the World Hunger Lock-in in Pelham and the C.Y.O. convention
November 30th - December 2nd.
Teen Life added 8 new members to its ranks this year.
Tom Lindgren told the Parish Council that he has met 3 times with John
Sullivan to review the plans for the parish center.
He displayed preliminary plans that depicted a rounded area on the parish
center that mirrors the contours of the Church.
Tom informed the Parish Council that the Fundraising Committee for St.
Patrick’s Building Fund will send a letter to the approximately 750 families
of St. Patrick’s updating them on the parish center.
In that letter the committee notes that the Fundraising Campaign will
commence with the September 30th cocktail party under the “Big
Tent” on parish grounds. Two days
after that letter is mailed, invitations to the cocktail party will be sent to
everyone in the parish. Frank
Golden thanked Mary Ann Shaheen and Mary B. Ryan for their fine work in
preparing the master list of names of parishioners.
C.Y.O. basketball has started registration early this year due to
increased demand. Teams have been
formed for 3rd through 8th grade boys.
Girls are represented in grades 3 through 5. Scheduling is complicated owing to space limitations.
Father Quinn would like to continue to pursue the opportunity for
practice at Byram Hills.
The cross planned for installation on St. Patrick’s property will be 13
feet high with a white corpus. It
will be installed in the front of the property offset by trees.
Frank Golden suggested that St. Patrick’s print a booklet on the
history of the parish. All agreed
with his suggestion.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday, October 11th at 7:30 P.M.
