PARISH COUNCIL OF ST. PATRICK IN ARMONK
MINUTES OF MEETING ON MAY 29th, 2001
Present at the May 29th, 2001 meeting were Alex Bacon, Louis Brusco, Thomas D'Agostino, John Erikson, Frank Golden, Tom Lindgren, Bob Morris, Ann O'Sullivan, Ruth Pell, Father John Quinn, Mary Ryan, Ann Silvestri, Barrie Watson, and Lynn Watson.Father Quinn welcomed all present and asked that everyone remember the sick in their prayers, especially Rosemary Smith. Ann Silvestri led the Parish Council in Vespers.
Ann Silvestri outlined the purpose of the meeting which was to discuss whether the classroom extension project should proceed as planned, or proceed with a reduced number of classrooms, or be eliminated entirely. If the project were to be eliminated, classrooms could be built in the proposed gym/ social center.
Frank Golden reviewed the capacity of the existing classrooms along with enrollment projections. There are 6 classrooms that can comfortably support up to 12 students each, for a total of 72 students per session. If 2 sessions are held per day, 4 days a week, the top capacity for the current classrooms is 576 students, which is exactly the number of students projected for fall enrollment. If that number grows, portable classrooms can be rented for $8,000 per year. Due to construction delays, even if the classroom extension project proceeds as planned it will not be ready for September occupancy.
Tom Lindgren reported that Peter MacNamara, the Archdiocesan representative in charge of building projects, was receptive to the idea of adding classrooms to the proposed gym/social center. This could be a better use of resources than building a classroom extension.
Alex Bacon noted that a special permit would be required to cover the construction of the classroom extension project and/or the installation of portable classrooms. The Parish Council decided to file for the permit while reviewing all options for added classroom space.
Barrie Watson suggested that an open meeting be held to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed gym/social center. The Parish Council agreed and scheduled the meeting for Wednesday, June 20th at 7:30 P.M. That meeting will serve as a follow-up to the November 1st, 2000 Parish Council meeting which focused on the advantages and disadvantages of that project.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday, June 28th at 7:30 P.M.
