kudos:
Due to a scheduling glitch, our annual Bloodbank, on an unannounced schedule, still garnered about
40 pints of blood. Thanx to all who gave. St
Patrick’s folks are tops!!!
IN
THE FUTURE:
Don’t forget
our Dinner Dance on March 13 and our Wine Tasting on April 16!!!!
Kudos: Our parish community salutes and thanks
John Tartaglia as his family moves to
Connecticut. John wore many hats here
over the years. 1) He was chair of our
parish council; 2) He was the driving force for our Crisis Management and Background
Checks; 3) He assisted in parish maintenance bigtime.
Thanx, John. We will
miss you!!
Recently, our
rectory co-ordinator, Jetta
Magrone, was honored by Archbp
Dolan and the Archdiocese of NY for years of service to our parish
community. Thanx,
too, from that
entire parish community!!

The required class for parental
catechetical preparation will be on Saturday, Jan 23 at 10.30 in the Ladychapel. Call for
info. We resume baptisms on Easter Sat, April 10.
Our food pantry
contributions have been superlative. (Are we surprised?) Still, we are asked to
step up in a big way our contributions because the need in our own area is
increasing. Do what you can. Try to bring food with you each weekend, when
you come to Mass. It is an appropriate
revival of an ancient Catholic custom that speaks for itself.
EPIPHANY PROCLAMATION:
Dear
brothers and sisters, the Glory of the Lord has shone upon us and shall ever be
manifest among us, until the day of His Return.
Let us recall the year’s central feast, the Easter Triduum
of the Lord: His Last Supper, His Crucifixion, His burial and His Resurrection,
celebrated between the evening of Thursday, April 1 and the evening of Sunday,
April 4. Each Easter – as on each Sunday
-- the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ
Jesus has forever conquered sin and death.
From Easter are reckoned all the days we
keep holy, Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on February
17. Pentecost, the 50th Day
of Easter, the joyful conclusion of Easter, will be celebrated on May 23. And this year, the First Sunday of Advent
will be November 28.
To
Jesus Christ, Who was, Who is and Who is to come, Lord
of time and history, be endless praise, forever and ever. Amen.

Thanx to all for their continued support of our ongoing efforts to pay
down the remaining $107,000 debt for our Parish Center. If you have not
completed your pledge, would you please consider doing so in 2009? Our

THE PARA-OIKIA:
HAVE
YOU, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW, CONSIDERED “INQUIRING” INTO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH?
If so, we offer a simple process (Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults) for unbaptized persons seeking
to know more about the Church, baptized adults from another Christian tradition
who would like to come into full communion with us, or baptized Catholics who
have not been fully formed in the faith of our church and desire to complete
the sacraments of Christian initiation (Eucharist and Confirmation). If you are
interested or you know someone who is, speak to JQ or Diane.
IN THE PARA-OIKIA:
Every Thursday
morning, our daily Mass community prays for peace in a special way. In the Middle Ages,
all fighting was to cease on Thursday in recognition of Jesus’ institution of
the Eucharist in Holy Thursday. Take
home a white or green card from church to join us even if you cannot be here
physically.
The
Diocese urges us to remind you periodically to think about remembering St
Patrick’s in estate planning.
PLEASE,
TRY TO BE ON TIME A FEW MINUTES BEFORE MASS TO ALLOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A
CHANCE TO RECOLLECT BEFORE WE HEAR GOD’S WORD IN THE SCRIPTURES EACH WEEKEND AS
AN ACT OF COURTESY TO GOD AND THE COMMUNITY!! CONSISTENT LATENESS FOR
MASS MIGHT BE SUBTLY SAYING THAT YOU DON’T NEED TO HEAR THE SCRIPTURES.THINK
ABOUT IT.
COLLECTION: It’s
franks and beans this week!! Only 103
envelopes were used. Thanx to all who gave. Sadly, many feel that church attendance is
only something we do when CCD is in session.
Not so!! God comes first, even on Summer Sundays. Think about www.parishpay.com
or 1866PARISH1. We’ll survive!!
HEAR
YE: As our parish has
grown, the maintenance requirements of the parish have grown as well. Whose has
not? We would like to hire a full-time maintenance person to handle cleaning
and minor repairs. Current weekly income
is insufficient for our plan. We
estimate that we would need about $2 per person per week to allow us to move
forward. We realize that this may be
difficult for some now. A $2 increase
per each person worshipping here would benefit the entire parish community. Thanx for all you do.
Friendly
reminders:
Impress your
kids. Remind them that God comes first,
even on summer Sundays.
There will be
no Thursday afternoon classes next year in TPC. There will be classes for
Grades K thru 5 on Monday and Wednesday afternoons only, as well as two
sessions on Sunday morning for Grades K thru 8.
Grades 6,7, and 8 will be held only on Monday
and Wednesday evenings. Regisrations will go out shortly. A big reason for the adjustment in schedule
is the lack of parent-teachers during the week. Help Jesus to share the faith
with the children of the community!!!
Hear ye!!

NB……We honor the ancient custom of the church and suspend celebrations
of the Sacrament of Baptism from Ash Wednesday until the Easter Vigil. Our first scheduled baptisms in the 50 days

notice: We are conscious of the adverse weather conditions
during the winter. Please, exercise

NOTICES:
We
are doing well, bit in an attempt to save paper and postage, we need to remove
names from our mailing list of folks who have asked for envelopes and then,
don’t use them or have moved. If you do receive and use envelopes, of course,
there will be no need. Think about the
possibility of Parishpay as a time saver and energy
saver. Call Mary or Cathy for details.
We
ask all to clean up the church at the end of the Mass that you attend by taking
home or re-placing at the vestibules bulletins.
Please also, Martha asks that you put the hymn books back in the racks!!
Thanx to all.
If
you are an adult without children and are consistently late for the
Liturgy of the Word (aka the start of Mass), think about what it says about
your attitude to the Word of God and your fellow worshippers!!
Hear
ye!!!
According to
the ancient custom of the church, we do not do baptisms during Lent, because
Lent was meant to be a 40 day period of preparation for adults to be baptized
at Easter. We will plan on Easter
baptisms beginning on Saturday, March 29!!
For
several reasons, we ask the community to refrain from bringing pets onto our
church campus at any time! You can figure out a few of the reasons why!!

Our
two wonderful stalwarts, Sr Mary Rose Golden and Sr Barbara Heil, were recently honored
by the Archdiocese of NY for years of service here at St Patrick’s with the

their families. We salute these two
wonderful ladies and thank God for their gracing us with their presence and

Fundraising
update:
Thanx to the many families and
individuals who have supported the Phase II effort of the Parish Center
fundraising efforts.
Pledges and gifts totaling $562,000 are helping us near our goal of

A thought:
The
life and words of Jesus and the teachings of the Church call us to serve those
in need and to work actively for social and economic justice. As a community of Catholic believers, we know
that our faith is tested by the quality of justice among us, that we best
measure our life together by how well the poor and the vulnerable are treated.
USCCB, Economic Justice for All,

“Our
Faith is not just a weekend obligation, a mystery to be celebrated around an
altar on Sunday. It is a pervasive
reality to be practiced every day in homes, offices, factories, schools and
businesses across our land. We cannot separate what we believe from how we act
in the marketplace and the broader community, for this is where we make our
primary contribution to the pursuit of economic justice.” USCCB, Economic
Justice for All, 1986.

Does
our economic system place more emphasis on maximizing profits than on meeting
human needs and fostering human dignity? Does our economy distribute its
benefits equitably or does it concentrate power and resources in the hands of a

too many scarce resources to military purposes? (USCCB, Economic Justice for

an alienation or for general Catholic development. Old timers, welcomed back. If you have any
questions, speak to JQ at Mass.
